Ning - Social Network Site

Welcome to West Virginia Hippie Fest!

This site is a listing of festivals and events in and around 'the Mountain State', which are of interest to alternative community / hippie-type** folk.

Music festivals, Interfaith/Pagan festivals, Peace Festivals, Nature Festivals, basically any festival where you can expect cool vendors, food (healthy and unhealthy), live often spontaneous music, drum/fire circles... a 'hippie good time' as one of my friends would say!

There are also sections where you can find info on other, more generic type festivals as well as political/activist ralleys (yeah sorry, I'm not going to list conservative political ralleys - get yer own website, and notice the 'Friends of Coal' thing isn't listed here? That's on purpose - there is no such thing as 'green coal' - let's work on researching alternative, sustainable energy sources).

So, if you consider yourself to be a hippie-type person, alternative lifestyle person, or just enjoy that atmosphere, sit back, browse around and maybe you'll find something fun!

**Note: I've gotten some flack about using the term 'hippie' here, so please let me clarify. The 'hippie movement', as it is now called, wasn't some special club that folks joined by having long hair, wearing love beads, dropping acid, smoking joints and living in San Francisco. It was a label given to a broad range of experimental, rebellious individuals who decided that it was time for society to change, and they each contributed to that attempt to change it in their own unique ways.

I don't have super long hair, I don't smoke pot, I've never dropped acid and I take regular baths... but yes, I am angered and disgusted by the way our greedy society uses and uses and abuses everything it comes into contact with. I walk to the beat of a different drummer. Hell, I walk to the beat of my OWN drum. When the rest of the flock turns right, I wait and ask 'why?'. I revel in the revolutionary rhythm of rising resistence.

So, call me a 'hippie', with my short hair and relatively clean body, for lack of a better word, and maybe call yourself that too, or don't. To me, it's a tribute to that loosely connected web of incredible folks, young and old, who dared to try and make a difference.

Celebrating our history is one way that Poor Farm Fest contributes to historic preservation. Another way is through donating to local historic sites, to promote and preserve our past.

This beautiful farm, with its rolling fields and panoramic views of the mountains, the windmills on Cold Knob, and sunsets will provide a fabulous music venue!
